Brazil

Brazilian Samba Instrument Ganzá

The ganzá is a Brazilian rattle used as a percussion instrument, especially in samba music. It is cylindrically shaped and can be either a hand-woven basket or a metal canister which is filled with beads, metal balls, pebbles, or other similar items. Those made from metal produce a particularly loud sound. They are usually used to play a rhythm underneath the rest of the band.

Kenya

Kenyan Beading Bracelet

Beading has been a symbol of Kenyan national pride and various traditions for generations. Intricately beaded necklaces and collars are worn by women offer clues to their marital status, health, and even number of children.

Mexico

Mexican Artesanía Paper Flowers

Handcrafts are an important part of Mexico’s national identity; they are made for utilitarian or folk-art purposes using indigenous and European techniques with vibrant colors and designs. Art is a daily part of life in Mexico, as a child I learned to make these beautiful and colorful flowers, I used to make them as a gift for somebody or to put them on my hair. These are the basic instructions but you can play with different sizes, colors and papers. Enjoy!

Philippines

Filipino Sipa

Make your own sipa. You can use it like a hacky sack for fun or to practice sipa skills. Sipa is the Filipino name for the sport sepak takraw. Sepak takraw is popular in the Philippines and other Asian countries. Homemade sipa can be made with a wide variety of materials, including recycled and scrap material.

Thailand

Loi Krathong Art Project

Krathong is a Thai term which refers to a piece of banana trunk decorated with flowers, banana leaves, candle and incense sticks. The word Loy means to float in the Thai language. When put together, those two terms simply mean floating banana trunk festival.
