Alpana art, also known as Alpona in certain regions,is a vibrant and ephemeral form of floor art practiced primarily in eastern part of India. Alpana serves as a visual prayer, a welcoming gesture and a symbol of cultural heritage. This traditional folk art involves creating intricate, symmetrical designs on the floor using natural materials like rice paste, chalk, or colored powders. Often associated with different rituals, festivals, and auspicious occasions, it represents rich history, symbolism and cultural significance. During this workshop, participants explore art, symbology, geometry as well as culture, ecology, and history as they create their own Alpona designs on paper or textile.
