Sonal Mistry was born in Gujarat, India. She has been living in the U.S. since 1995. She is a professional henna – or mehndi – designer and is well versed in Indian culture, arts, crafts, and dances. Ms. Mistry earned her Bachelor of Science degree with a major in chemistry from Gujarat University, India. Ms. Mistry is a natural-born traditional artist, and she further improved her art and mehndi skills during her school and college studies. She learned Dandiya (stick dance) at a very young age through her involvement in cultural and folk dance activities and perfected her Dandiya/Garba dance by participating in various folk dance competitions. Over the last 20 years, she has shared her knowledge of Indian culture through a variety of interactive presentations at schools, businesses, parties, cultural affairs, and other community events.
