Fonziba Koster



Fonziba Koster has a B.A. in Music Education and lives in Fairfield, Iowa. She has been teaching and performing on West African djembe hand-drums since 1996 and has presented her African Drumming & Culture programs to thousands of kids and adults in schools, libraries, museums, churches, and retirement communities throughout Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri. Fonziba has studied extensively with master drummers from Mali, Guinea, Senegal, and the Ivory Coast. In the summer of 2003, she lived with a traditional family of drummers in Ivory Coast and performed with the family drum troupe at African weddings. She produced a documentary about this trip, which she shows to schools. Fonziba has been a teaching artist with the Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri Arts Councils, Metro Arts, and CHARACTER COUNTS.
