Sidney Vuong was born in 1955 to a Chinese family in South Vietnam. In 1978, after 3 years of the North Vietnam communist rules and prosecution of Southern Liberals, Sidney escaped to a refugee camp in Malaysia. In 1980 Sidney arrived to Waterloo, Iowa for a new life. He graduated from University of Northern Iowa in 1989 with a Computer Science BA degree. He secured a computer programmer job at Norwest Financial. Norwest later merged with Wells Fargo, where he continued his career until he retired in April 2023. He is deeply grateful to the United States and the many kind people who helped him turn a challenging beginning into a successful life in America.

Sidney has been practicing Tai Chi since early 2000’s. Before practicing Tai Chi, he had bilateral knee pain.  After practicing Tai Chi for six months, his knees felt much better, and eventually, the pain disappeared completely.  Tai Chi has been excellent for him.  He rarely ever experiences joint or body pain. He has been teaching Tai Chi since 2016.
