Iraq, officially The Republic of Iraq, was known as Mesopotamia (land between the rivers) in ancient times. Participants will learn about the ongoing heritage of one of the earliest civilizations. Iraqi people are very welcoming; people like to gather on weekends and holidays, share home-cooking with guests, and chat about daily life.

Most Iraqis observe a very special holiday - like Thanksgiving or Christmas - that is celebrated for the whole month in all Arabic and Muslim countries called Ramadan. Participants will learn about traditional food, games, songs, and practices of this important month.
