Learn and practice folk dances from around the world. A particular country or region may be chosen.
Students will learn age-appropriate dances that range from the very simple La Raspa to more complex dances such as Korobushka. General comments about the region, why dances are the way they are, clothing, and climate will accompany the learning so students learn not just the dances, but something about the people and country.
Dancing is an exhibition of life – it allows us to engage in society in many ways. Folk dances (from village circle dances to rock and roll response to music) not only show how societies behave but also encourage individuals to behave well in society. Learn a country’s folk dances, and you will know something about that country and its people.
This workshop is appropriate for all ages.
