Yoko Tanaka, Executive Director of Japan America Society of Iowa, creates a mindful experience of Omotenashi (hospitality)as she teaches students about the Japanese Tea Ceremony. While entering the ritual of a Tea Ceremony, students speak Japanese, cleanse their hands, experience a light meal and practice proper Japanese etiquette, including the power of silence. Students discover the essence of Japanese belief: Ichigoichie — Treasure every encounter, for it will never recur.
