Celebrating the Moon Festivals

The Mid-Autumn Festival –also known as the Moon Festival – is one of China’s largest annual celebrations.It is also celebrated by the people of Taiwan, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia,Indonesia, Korea, and the Philippines.

This workshop explores some of the history and traditions of the Moon Festival. Participants will:

  • Learn about the Chinese calendar
  • Explore the animal signs of the Chinese Zodiac
  • Learn about the Legend of Moon Festival Celebration
  • Explore the ways that people celebrate theMoon Festival in China.

Optional: The workshop may also include activities, depending on the workshop length and classroom space.

  • Activity 1: Making Chinese Mooncakes (requires kitchen and food supplies)
  • Activity 2: Make Chinese Lanterns (requires workspace and supplies).
