Community Outreach Specialist for Japan-related programming

Reports to Operations Director

This position is part of a 12-month project supported by the Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership. The Community Outreach Specialist will promote Japan-related programs in regions beyond the Greater Des Moines metropolitan area. For 17 years, CultureALL has been organizing and promoting interactive presentations about Japanese culture along with 40+ other cultures. These programs have been concentrated inside the Greater Des Moines metro. With Japan Foundation funding, the Community Outreach Specialist will expand into rural schools, libraries, community centers, and worksites. We expect activities will be focused in and around the following communities: Fort Dodge (in Northwest Iowa), Harlan (Western Iowa), Waterloo/Cedar Falls (NE), Cedar Rapids(East), and Fairfield and Oskaloosa (SE). During the grant funding period, the Community Outreach Specialist is responsible for initiating at least 20 events that include Japanese cultural experiences. The position will be sustained after the grant funding period by revenue generated from sales success.  

Responsibilities‍

CultureALL seeks a driven, sales-minded promoter who will be a catalyst for inclusive communities. The Community Outreach Specialist for Japanese Culture will:

• Call on community, business, and school leaders in specific regions outside the Des Moines metro area, generating 10 new leads per week

• Inspire these decision makers and inform them about the benefits of hosting Japan-related presentations and programs

• Document these leads and conversations in CultureALL’s client relationship management system (Salesforce CRM)

• Communicate with CultureALL’s Program Coordinator who will schedule and confirm the details for events

• Follow up to ensure the community partners are being well served

• Invest time in meeting Japanese cultural presenters

• Initiate collaborations with Japanese cultural presenters, including Soten Taiko, the Ikebana group, Japan America Society of Iowa, Iowa Sister States/Cities and others to explore the potential for new programming

• Cultivate long-lasting relationships between community partners, Japanese cultural presenters, and CultureALL for future partnerships

• Drive activities that result in at least 20 events outside the Des Moines metro area

Qualifications

The Community Outreach Specialist for Japanese Culture we hire will be:

• Energized by community outreach activities: prospecting, researching, contacting, and introducing yourself to new people

• Jazzed about promoting Japanese culture

• Highly motivated to serve CultureALL’s mission and aligned with CultureALL’s values

• Invested in being accurate about the Japan-related programs available

• Excellent in communications – able to inform, educate, and persuade while using phone, email, in-person meetings, and formal presentations

• Efficient with time management in order to reach community outreach goals

• Highly professional - with integrity, optimism, energy, and collaboration

• Detail-oriented; outstanding organizational skills

• Comfortable with cloud technology; experience with Salesforce is desirable

Minimum qualifications

• 2+ years of prior sales experiences – so you know you love it!

• Demonstrated commitment to DEI

• Demonstrated strong presentation and communication skills

• Ability to travel to rural regions of Iowa

Salary Details

Salary range starting at $40,000
